Venue

  • Location: The Yardbird Suite, Edmonton

  • The Yardbird Suite is a really cool legit jazz club in Edmonton. We encourage you to bring your bands to support each other. Stay for a few performances, if you’re so inclined.
  • The Yardbird Suite is across the street from the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre, and another quick jump to the churches where the instrumental clinics are held. Many directors find it convenient to schedule band workshops, instrumental clinics and their jazz performances back to back.
    • You absolutely have enough time to walk between the venues!

Scheduling

Performances and Workshops

  • Jazz bands perform on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday April 12-14.
  • Jazz bands have 50 minutes for their warmup, performance, and workshop.
  • Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your performance to get instruments out of cases and be prepared to quickly warm up on stage before you performance. This time slot is listed as “Warmup” on your schedule on the Director Dashboard.

Music

  • There are no required standards for Jazz bands.

Scores

  • You will need to bring 1 extra score for the adjudicator.
